Sad fact; Lenovo/IBM make some of the easiest laptops to work on.

It only gets worse.

Upgrading the XGA screen to SXGA

It could be worse. I've had to replace the hard drive in an iBook G3 before.

What the fuck? That's the most complicated way to replace a hard drive ever.

Have you ever messed around with a Samsung Chromebook?

I'd like to replace a keyboard BUT I GUESS THAT WON'T BE HAPPENING TODAY OR ANYTIME SOON.

I love the Dell E6500 series laptops. Want a new speaker grill? One side easily comes off. The other side? COMPLETE FUCKING TEARDOWN TO THE FRAME.

My Dell rep told me that series was a big mistake as servicing extended warranty work costs them a ton more money than it should.

It's like Apple decided to build the entire laptop around the hard drive.

Yeah I feel you, I had to Replace the keyboard on my MacBook Pro 13. Ya know, the "let's fit the entire laptop into one single piece of milled aluminum" one. It's a good thing I'm used to repairing iPhones otherwise I woulda gone mad

I've done that, you ever upgraded the ram in a imac g3 tray loader? that was annoying, I named my computer freddie just so that when I got annoyed with it while working on it I could yell at it by name.

Topcases are annoying to replace.

They did do that with the lampshade iMac. It was really annoying to upgrade the HDD on mine. It was convection cooled so everything was stacked on top of eachother, in order from warmest component to coolest component, warmest closest to the fan.

yeah I only had to replace the keyboard, but the process was basically the same. A real hassle but I do suppose it saved me a trip to the Genius Bar

indeed, how long did it take you? I wanna guess 3 hours or more.

hmm I wanna say start to finish probably like 3 to 4 hours, but only cause I was really taking my time as it was one week out of the 3 year warrantee when it happened, I was leaving for London in a week for 4 months and really needed the laptop and it was my first time taking any macbook apart.

Gets a bit easier and faster once you know what you're doing though

Ya it does get faster after a few tries, but im glad you took your time the first time my brother did it (his mbp was out of warranty before mine) he screwed up the installment of the trackpad and had to redo it. did you reapply thermal paste while you were in there? it would have been a good idea.

hah yeah I've botched a repair of my iphone once or twice, enough to make sure to take my time on something this much more complicated. And no I didn't, where should it have gone haha? I didn't have any at the time, I was kinda just hoping to get it fixed before I moved halfway across the world for a few months, though it has held up well, the repair was done in the first week of January so it's been like 5 months since.

on the processor (and graphics card if you have a mid-2010 or earlier MBP), the job they do from the factory is shitty, if you did it it would greatly improve your laptop's cooling ability.

hmm, look at that, you learn something new every day. Looks like I might have to take it apart and try that out. I did notice the fan does flick on more quickly after any type of use lately, though I put that down to old age. Thanks though, anywhere you could point to a guide for application of that?

jsut follow this video on how to do it after youve removed the logic board, you'll need a take apart for that
